We are firmly established as a centre of national and international excellence in legal study and research.
The School is ranked seventh in the England and third in London for Law, based on the percentage of our staff rated 3* & 4* (4* being the highest) in the UK government 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, denoting research excellence of international importance. Read more about our research.
Student satisfaction
In the Times Good University Guide 2011 we are ranked sixth overall in the UK and third in London for law. We are placed even higher in the Guardian's University 2011 Guide, positioned third overall in the UK and first in London for law.
In the most recent National Student Survey (NSS) 2010, the School of Law scored an impressive 94 per cent for student satisfaction, giving us equal highest score amongst the University of London colleges.
School of Law and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies
The School of Law consists of the Department of Law based at Mile End and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Lincoln's Inn Fields.
The Department of Law covers the full spectrum of legal studies.
The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) specialises in the knowledge and skills in commercial law that can be placed at the service of government, public bodies, overseas institutions, the legal profession, industry and commerce.
Our staff
Our academic staff are actively involved in public affairs in the UK, European institutions and international bodies, and have leading roles in legal scholarship.
We have close links with law firms and leading members of the law professions in the UK and overseas. Some are involved in our teaching and others support students and activities within the school.

Service to the community
We continue Queen Mary's long-standing tradition of service to the local community. Our Legal Advice Centre is run with the help of students from the School of Law and offers free legal advice to members of the public.
