About the LLM programme

The School of Law offers a suite of 18 LLM programmes of study, each leading to the award of a University of London LLM degree. Whichever programme you decide to follow, you will be dealing with complex issues systematically and creatively. Taught by Queen Mary, University of London's expert teachers, you will leave with an advanced and thorough understanding of the key and current trends and issues in your chosen field.
The LLM may be taken as a one year full-time or two years part-time programme:
  • LLM full-time - Programme Code  M2Q1
  • LLM part-time - Programme Code M2Q2
For many of our students, LLM study is a stepping stone to developing academic and professional expertise in a particular field of law. For others, it is an opportunity to gain postgraduate knowledge and skills across a broad range of subjects. The programmes of study provide a flexible mix of classroom based teaching (assessed by formal examinations or coursework) in three taught modules, followed by more self-directed work on a 15,000 word dissertation.
One of the distinctive features of the LLM at Queen Mary is the exceptionally wide range of over 105 module options. These are advanced programmes of study, so you will be expected to direct your own work and develop high level legal and transferable skills. Join us, and you will become one of about 300 students taking the LLM programmes.
Your fellow students will come from the UK and more than 50 other countries, each able to draw on prior academic and in many cases professional experiences from different types of legal system to enrich discussion and debate in class.
